Hill Walking

Saturday

We had some really good weather to start with on Saturday, despite it was pretty cold the sky was clear, but clouds and snow started to come in later during the day. A small group of four went for a low level walk behind the hut, since they had to get back early to prepare dinner. Owen also "owened" (ripped) his trousers during the walk.

Helvelyn (Carpark by Thirlmere - Helvellyn - Thrilspot Farm)	?	0830-1530

Starting from the car park By Thirlmere the route started up the path near Comb Gill Stream to Comb Crags, from here the path turned North and passed above High Crag. The route then made for the top of the ridge at Swallow Scarth and followed this North to the summit of Helvellyn (950m). From the Summit the route turned South and followed the ridge along to Nethermost Pike (891m), High Crag (884m) and Dollywagon Pike (858m). The path then descended down the slope to Grisdale Tarn, where the group had lunch. The route then descended down to the hut via Raise Beck.

From hut, head round the back at climb steep hill to the summit of Seat Sandal. From summit, head down to Grisedale Tarn and follow stream back down to main road and back to hut.

 

 

 

At night we all had a brilliant Christmas dinner, thanks to the effort from Owen and everyone who gave a hand, followed by lots of fun games (e.g. the Dxxxkxn Fresher which Owen won for the 3rd time, Minibus Driver Challenge, Best Latecomer and more joy and laughter, with Geoff ending up in the loo after a gin too many!

Sunday

On sunday everyone got up quite late, and some of us went gear/tea-shopping, the others went for a walk round a lake.
